Sisimiut - Homestay

Sisimiut is Greenlandic for »the inhabitants by the fox burrows«. With its 5.960 inhabitants divided between the town and
the nearby settlements Sisimiut is the second largest municipality in Greenland. It is located north of the Arctic Circle
and is Greenland’s northernmost town with an ice-free harbour during the entire winter, and is the southernmost town with
dogsledge traffic.

The area is 36.000 km2. Of this area 17.000 km2 is ice-free, and the ocean covers 4.000 km2.

A high-tech shrimp and crab processing plant emphasises the fact that fishing and hunting are the most important occupations
of the town.

Climb up to the top of the town’s landmark, a 784 m mountain, and you will be rewarded by a fantastic view of the town, sea,
and mountains.

Take a walk and experience the busy harbour with the fishing fleet and other maritime traffic. Out at sea there will almost
certainly be whales, such as rorquals, fin whales, killer whales or humpbacks.
